Visitors to the Island of Fire – as Lanzarote is sometimes referred to – have three main holiday resorts to select from.  Each with its own plus points and individual character.

Costa Teguise

Costa Teguise is the smallest of these three resorts.  Boasting an open and airy feel which is the legacy of being purpose designed and built by the island born artist Cesar Manrique.

Costa Teguise was first developed during the 1980´s as a slightly more upmarket alternative to the larger resort of Puerto del Carmen along the coastline.  Boasting upmarket accommodation in the form of the five star Gran Melia Salinas – which is still widely regarded as the best hotel on the island today.

Visitors are also able to select from a good range of holiday villas in Costa Teguise.  And can enjoy some great beaches too – as stretches of fine sand line the shore throughout the resort.

Puerto del Carmen

Puerto del Carmen started life offering budget accommodation for intrepid travellers in the late 1960s.  When there were no real roads or much in the way of any infrastructure on the island.  All that has changed today though.  As Puerto del Carmen has expanded into a huge resort – by far the most popular and most visited on the island.

It’s still possible to enjoy a good value break here as there are over 100 apartment complexes offering cheap accommodation.  But for those who prefer to relax in slightly more luxurious surroundings there are also a number of good quality hotels in Puerto del Carmen to choose from.

Puerto del Carmen makes a great base for touring the island as it is centrally located just a short hop from the main island airport at Arrecife.  And also boasts the best nightlife of any of the resorts on the island.  With a host of bars restaurants and clubs for visitors to choose from.

Playa Blanca

Playa Blanca is the most recently constructed resort on Lanzarote and is located at the southern heel of the island some forty five minutes from the airport.

This location also tends to ensure that tourists staying here enjoy the best weather.  As there is a pronounced microclimate at work even on an island as small as Lanzarote.

There’s a great selection of hotels and villas in Playa Blanca – many of which occupy elevated positions in the resort.  So granting guests breathtaking views down to the Atlantic and across to the neigbouring island of Fuerteventura.
